Daily tasks:
The company employs a wide range of staff from different parts of the world in its Beijing office. We are now looking for interns to:
• Teaching English and Chinese as foreign languages to those here who are interested to improve their language skills;
• Translating for the company’s website;
• Translating other documents, interpreting, depending on requests from the company and interest from the candidate.
Requirements:
• Native speaker of English or Chinese, ideally with teaching English/Chinese as a foreign language qualification.
• Demonstrable experience of teaching non-native speakers.
• Experience of translating and interpreting would be an advantage.
Internship company description:
The company is an intergovernmental non-profit organization with the mandate “To improve the wellbeing of the producers and users of bamboo and rattan”. They currently have 34 member countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, plus Canada, and run development projects in many of these. They are funded by key grants from the governments of China, Canada and the Netherlands, and by UN-IFAD, and by project grants from donors such as DfID, the EU and Common Fund for Commodities.
The main activities of this company are running rural and sectoral development projects, training and technology transfer, and environmental amelioration projects with bamboo and rattan. They also do work to support the global bamboo and rattan sectors, such as the development of standards and codes for bamboo products, developing improved trade reporting systems, and development of databases on such diverse subjects as global bamboo and rattan resources, and bamboo and rattan technologies suitable for gender-equitable development.

HUTONG SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME in CHINA
Hutong School’s Internship Program focuses on finding the right company match for each applicant. Our Internship Consultants evaluate your needs and are committed to helping you to find an internship placement at one of our many partner companies here in China. With schools in Beijing and Shanghai you can take part in our Internship Program in either of both cities, the choice is up to you.
The internships offered by The Hutong School are part of the Internship package consisting of:
• Internship placement in a Beijing or Shanghai-based company
• 6 hours of group Chinese classes per week (or 3 hours per week of private lessons if there is no group available at your level)
• Accommodation in a modern shared apartment (with your own bedroom) in the centre of the city (all utilities included)
• Organization of cultural activities 2-4 times per week (tea ceremony, taichi lessons, kung fu show, trips and excursions in and around the city…)
• Practical assistance while here in China (including airport pickup, visa assistance, 24/7 support, welcome pack)
